How to Use Playlists to Increase Watch Time and Grow Your Channel

One of the most important metrics for growing your channel is increasing watch time. YouTube will see that people are watching more, so then they show more people your content.

YouTube rewards channels with high watch time with more videos shown on suggested videos and other places.

Increasing watch time for your channel is always a great goal to keep in mind as you plan your videos.

But another way to increase watch time is to create more playlists.

Watch time is key 🗝 for growing your channel and creating playlists is a great strategy to get more watch time.

When people find your channel you want to make it easy on them to discover more of your content so they will keep watching. The YouTube algorithm rewards channels when people keep watching.

We want people to binge watch our content and playlists are a perfect vehicle to make that happen.

It’s easy to create playlists and you can create many playlists based on subject matter. And one video can be included in many playlists.

Playlists can be featured on your channel page, video descriptions and also on end screens. Don’t miss this opportunity to get more views!

In summary:

  1. Increasing watch time is very important.
  2. Playlists give your viewers more options to binge watch your content.
  3. Playlists are easy to create.
  4. You can create as many playlists as you like.
  5. Feature SINGLE playlists on your channel page.
  6. Use playlists on your end screens.

Want to Grow Your YouTube Channel? Stop Comparing Your Channel to Others

When you are first starting your channel or even if you have been at it for quite some time, you may be tempted to look at other channels to see how fast they are growing.

Or you may be comparing how many views these other channels get.

Now it’s natural to see what other channels are doing because you can learn from them, but if you are comparing them to your channel, that’s where the danger lies. 🗡

One of the most destructive things you can do as a YouTuber is comparing yourself to others.

When you look at the other YouTubers and see how big their channels are and then you compare yourself to them, it’s only going to make you feel bad.

Most of the big YouTubers have been at it for quite some time. YouTube takes a long time to build and those that got started early have an advantage.

It’s natural to try and compare but if those comparisons make you feel bad, it’s a good idea to stop.

Everyone starts at the beginning and as you make steady weekly progress, you will continue to grow. Keep at it!

Canva YouTube Banner Tutorial – Channel Art

One of the things I see quite often on YouTube is that so many channels do not have a custom YouTube Banner or Channel Art.

This is one of the first things you need so new viewers and subscribers can quickly understandwhat your channel is all about!

If you don’t have a YouTube Channel Banner, formerly called, Channel Art, you will missing out on gaining new subscribers!

When potential subscribers click on your channel and they don’t see any information about what your channel is about, you are not giving them any reason to subscribe!

And just having a pretty picture is also not helping your cause, either.

Your YouTube Banner is the place to put your channel name, branding logo and any information about what your channel is about and possibly your upload schedule.

In this video, I will be using a screen sharing program while talking to you and showing you just how easy it is to create a YouTube Banner in Canva.

So you can just follow along and watch me build a YouTube Banner in Canva.

Canva is an online graphic program and it is my favorite for making banners and thumbnails for YouTube. (It’s great for any and every design project, too.)

The reason why I love Canva so much is because it has many templates you can tweak or you can create a new one from scratch.

Canva also has royalty-free pictures and elements. You can also upload your own pictureswith the paid version.

And it makes design so easy with moving lines that help you balance your designs.

Let’s review:

1. Your channel banner is key for new subscribers so they understand what your channel is about.

2. It should have text that features your channel name and important information, like up loading schedule and/or other branding or descriptions about what your channel is about.

How to Make Content for Your YouTube Niche by Thinking Outside In

One of the most difficult but important ideas for YouTube success is being very clear about your niche.

It can be hard to pick a focus.

YouTube works best if you have a specific niche that you are speaking to. It’s even better if you have a clear idea of who is your ideal client and subscriber and think deeply about what they need to hear or learn from YOU.

And then let’s go even further. Once you have this person in mind, you are going to think, Outside In.

So what do I mean by that? You are going to think of what they need, want, and wish they knew what you know.  This is different from creating content that may be re-purposed content from other social media.

The different focus will attract people to your content because it’s all about THEM.

Often times YouTube creators focus on what they create and they just hope people will like it. By being clear with your niche and being dedicated to understanding them, by thinking outside in, you will be more likely to connect with them because it is all about them and not you.

And that is how you grow your channel. 🎯

Why Your YouTube Channel Isn’t Growing – Do This Instead

Are you struggling to grow your YouTube channel?  Are you still getting few views or subscribers? If this is how you are feeling… this video is for you!

Are you struggling to build your YouTube channel? It’s not all about making and uploading videos. There is so much more on the back end that you need to do so your channel and videos get found.

YouTube is not like social media, where you see the content you follow on your feed. YouTube growth strategies help you to get found through search.

After your family, friends, colleagues and clients subscribe to your channel, it won’t grow anymore unless you set your channel up to be found by search. That is how you grow your channel.

But sadly, so many channels with good content languish because people do not understand how YouTube works.

YouTube is a great way to advertise your business and coaching programs but if your channel and videos are getting few views, it’s not because your content is bad.  It’s usually because you don’t understand how YouTube works.

If you are uploading random things, like re-purposing Facebook lives, the YouTube algorithm won’t know what to do with your content.

Also, the YouTube audience is fickle and if you don’t get to the point right away, or you are just saying hi to your people on a Facebook live, people will click off.

YouTube works best if you are clear about WHO you are creating content for. We call this your Ideal Client. Think about what THEY want and need to hear from YOU.

Next, to grow your channel you MUST upload regularly. If you only upload when you feel like it, your channel will not grow very much.

This is a big one… not understanding that YouTube is tied to Google. The way your channel grows is by creating Titles for your videos using terms that people are searching for.

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is KEY to growing on YouTube.

And last, Thumbnails need to be clear and visually appealing so when your video shows up on search, people will click on it.

Check for these issues:

1. Be clear about your channel’s focus and don’t use YouTube as a place to repurpose random Facebook lives.

2. Regular uploads are required if you want to grow your channel.

3. Create titles that people are searching for with the words they would use.

4. Create thumbnails that are visually appealing so people will click when they see it.

Unfortunately, most people don’t learn these concepts in school, which is why their channels aren’t getting many views or subs. YouTubers need to grow new skills. But you can learn and that is why I have started my YouTube coaching business.

YouTube Copyright Strike vs. Copyright Claim

Have you thought about using video clips or audios in your YouTube videos? Are you concerned about copyright issues if you do? Copyright issues can be confusing and many content creators shy away.  But in truth, many channels like cover channels, news, reaction, dance routines,  and more, use copyrighted content with no problems.

You just need to understand the difference between a copyright claim and a copyright strike.

What is the difference between copyright strike or a copyright claim?

When you upload a video to YouTube, YouTube will run programs during processing to search for content that is under copyright. If they find material that is under copyright, the copyright holders may file a copyright claim.

The copyright claim allows the copyright holder to place ads on your video and the money will go to the copyright holder.

If you are not monetized, this has no real effect on you. If you are monetized, you may choose to dispute the claim as fair use (such as in news reports, cover channels, reaction videos, dance covers, etc.) if you believe your content falls under fair use.

A copyright strike is much more serious. There are two types of strikes for YouTube: Community strikes and Community Strikes.

Community Strikes can happen when people upload content that is against YouTube’s rules and terms. Copyright Strikes are takedowns over copyrighted material that the copyright owner wants taken down immediately. Usually these strikes are over stealing content but not always.

Sometimes the copyright owner refuses to allow any images or audio of any kind. Fortunately, copyright strikes are fairly rare.

When a channel gets a strike, they will have a three month grace period and after that time, the strike will expire. But if a channel get three strikes, community or copyright in three months, the channel will be deleted.

And also, be aware of fair use. There are copyright claim trolls who try to claim classical compositions that are in Public Domain, so be aware.

In Summary:

1. YouTube copyright strikes are bad! And usually they stem stealing another work uploading in total as their own.
2. A copyright claim only means that the owner of the content can put ads on your videos.

3. If you are not monetized, a copyright claim has no effect on your channel.

4. If you are monetized, you can choose to dispute the copyright claim as fair use.

Have you been too nervous to use small bits of copyrighted material? I’d love to hear your experience.
