How to Remove a Copyright Claim on Your YouTube Videos – File a Dispute

Copyright is a tricky thing on YouTube.  Many people are afraid to use material that is under copyright, while other shady companies go after classical music that is in the public domain to steal ad revenue.

I’ve actually had these companies go after and steal my ad revenue right before the holiday season, years back, on my  O Holy Night tutorial, way before YouTube had guidelines and a procedure to dispute copyright claims.

Now many YouTubers are using some copyrighted material  (myself included) after a lawsuit ruling allowed greater understanding of the concept of “Fair Use”.

If you are creating educational content or you sing or perform covers on YouTube, there are ways to dispute the claims. Let me break it down for you.

During the upload process, YouTube checks for copyrighted material during the processing. If they find copyrighted material, you will often see a red mark and copyright claim under restrictions.

If you are certain that you have the right to dispute a copyright claim due to: error, common domain, or fair use, you can file a dispute. For fair use you need to demonstrate that your use of the material has made of significant change to the original content.

Fair use for YouTube could include: covers, news casts, reactions, critiques, mashups, dance, gaming, etc.

You can dispute or remove a claim by going into YouTube Studio and then to Content and then to the Video in question. In the video menu, click on Copyright Claim and then See claim.

This will take you to the details of the claim and and at the bottom right there is a click-able, drop down menu that allows you to dispute the claim.

With my reaction video channel, I have been fairly successful at removing the claims from my videos following the procedure I outline in this video tutorial.

In this video you will learn:

  • how YouTube scans for copyrighted material during the upload process
  • the difference between a copyright claim and a copyright strike
  • to beware of copyright trolls trying to copyright works in the public domain
  • what constitutes “Fair Use”
  • how to dispute a copyright claim on YouTube

And I need to add this disclaimer. I am not a lawyer nor am I giving legal advice. I am only a YouTuber who is showing you what has worked for me and others.  Please consult a copyright lawyer for more detailed information.

How to Use Keywords for Titles – Understanding YouTube SEO

Are you frustrated with your channel’s slow growth? Maybe it’s not about your content but how you are labeling your videos.

This video explains how to up your game so your videos get found by your ideal subscribers.

Keywords are key for getting found on YouTube.  The way to grow your channel and get more views is by creating Titles for your YouTube videos that use words that your viewers and subscribers are searching for.

By researching and choosing the keywords that describe your video content, you will be more able to be found on search, which is how you grow your YouTube channel. This concept is also called YouTube SEO, which means Search Engine Optimization.

YouTube is a search engine. It is NOT social media. Many people misunderstand this very important concept. The way you grow your channel is through search so you can reach new viewers.

If you are NOT using keywords in your titles, descriptions and tags that describe your video’s content, you will not show up on the search!

Titles like: mastermind, conference, round table, business names, dates and other like words will not be searchable for people looking for answers to their questions.

If you want to grow your channel beyond your friends, colleagues and clients, you need to devote time to research your keyword strings on Google, Adsense or Tubebuddy so you can find the best keyword rich titles for your video.

And then you need to add those keywords in the description and tags. Yes, it takes extra time to do research but the reward is having a channel that has a greater reach with new peopleand new clients constantly finding and subscribing to your channel.

In this video you will learn:

  • Why so many channels fail to grow
  • YouTube is a search engine
  • YouTube success requires SEO – Search Engine Optimization
  • How to find keywords for your video
  • How to research your keyword titles in Google or Tubebuddy
  • Why you need keywords in your title, description and tags

Uploading YouTube Videos on Holidays? Yay or Nay?

Do you have warm fuzzies from the memory of watching holiday themed TV specialsMe, too!  📺

Which is why I have thought to upload a holiday special video especially for the Holidays  But here’s a better strategy

It’s best to upload before the holiday. And here’s why…

When you are growing your channel, you may be temped to upload videos as much as you can.

But there are times it doesn’t pay to upload. Those times are the big major holidays!

I’ve been on YouTube for over ten years. In the past, I thought it would be great to plan some holiday themed content to upload on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas.

What I realized is that it didn’t really work so well. The videos simply did not get as many views as videos as before and after the holidays.

During holidays, like Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, etc. people just aren’t watching. They are traveling, relaxing, visiting with family and friends, eating… You get the picture. They are not watching YouTube!

Now the worst thing about uploading on a holiday, is that your video’s reach will be hindered. The YouTube Algorithm tests how your video is doing for the first 48 hours to determining how popular it is and how many of your subscribers are clicking on it in the feed.

So if you’re not getting regular views during that 48 hour period, it will be harder to generatemore traffic.

So if you’re tempted to upload a holiday themed video, make sure you upload BEFORE the holiday.

Likewise, in summer views often sag a bit because people are on vacation. That’s why we love fall because fall and winter are prime video watching time, … as long as you don’t upload on a proper holiday.

In this video you will learn:

  • Why uploading on major holidays isn’t a good idea
  • How the YouTube algorithm is affected
  • How watch time is affected by low engagement
  • How videos are tracked during the first 48 hours
  • Why you need to schedule videos when your subscribers will most likely see them
  • Why it’s best to schedule holiday content before the holiday
